Most markets buy laundry products in more than one format. Laundry soap bars (HSN 3401 19) remain the everyday choice where clothes are scrubbed by hand. Detergent powder (3402 50) has a long history in bucket and basin washing and gives the most entry-level price points, while liquid detergent (3402 50) is gaining ground in machine washing and is usually positioned as the convenient, premium choice. Our comparison of detergent powder and liquid detergent sets out the deciding factors, from washing habits to freight cost per wash.
Fabric softener completes the shelf. It is usually classified under 3402 50 but sometimes under 3809 91, so confirm the code with your broker, and see the fabric softener buying guide for types and fragrances. Sacks, cartons and bottles from the range can share one 20 ft or 40 ft container, so a distributor can launch a full laundry shelf in one shipment.
A laundry soap bar is mostly true soap and is judged by its TFM, often 60% or higher. A detergent bar blends soap with synthetic surfactants, fillers and builders, which lowers cost and improves washing in hard water. Both are sold for hand washing, and the right choice depends on your market's price point and water quality.
Buyer FAQ
Hand-wash powders foam heavily and are formulated for scrubbing, usually at lower cost. Machine powders, especially for front-load machines, use controlled foam so the drum does not overflow. Choose the grade to match how laundry is washed in your market.
Buyer FAQ
Standard top-load liquids work for both. Front-load machines need a low-foam formulation, so confirm the intended use when requesting a quotation. Delicate and colour-care liquids are positioned as milder, specialist products.
Buyer FAQ
Concentrates carry about two to three times the active matter of regular softeners, so a smaller dose does the same job. They cost more per litre but less per wash, and save freight and shelf space. Many buyers carry both in a good-better range.
